L.A. Noire is a crime thriller video game and the first official game selection to be featured at the Tribeca Film Festival which will take place April 20 through May 1. Founded by Robert DeNiro in 2002, and until now, the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival has never included the likes of any video game platform or title in the festival.
So what has set the LA Noire video game apart so much that the Tribeca Film Festival officials feel it is worthy for inclusion? The upcoming game by Rockstar is actually an interactive movie which implements MotionScan technology to engage interactive play and capture characters from every angle, including even the slightest facial expression. The film festival will have an exclusive premiere of the impressively life-like video game available at the festival. L.A. Noire demonstrates an innovative blending of interactive entertainment and film making. The festival will feature a presentation of the game, including a live interactive screening of one of the L.A. Noire’s cases, leading up to a question and answer session following the presentation.
Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser issued a statement in which he conveyed that he was thrilled and honored that L.A. Noire is being recognized by the Tribeca Film Festival. He also indicated that he felt that the recognition was a step forward for interactive entertainment development.
The Chief Creative Officer for the Tribeca Film Festival has called L.A. Noire a groundbreaking achievement, and praised the invention of storytelling in a completely new realm that includes cinema, gaming, narrative expression, and immersion. He also considers it a breakthrough which has the entertainment industry poised at the edge of a new frontier.
