As you’ve most likely heard the 3DS is taking a dip in price starting August 12th ( tomorrow ) from the original $249.99 to $169.99 due to some financial issues at Nintendo. Your also likely aware of how Nintendo plans to make it up to it’s loyal players who purchased the handheld during it’s more expensive days, by giving those players a ton of free downloadable games through the ambassador program.
Right after this was announced Nintendo saw a small spike in sales as certain gamers found the games worth the additional $80 they had to fork out for the 3DS. If you do want to take advantage of that program and you did happen to get the 3DS in the last few months then make sure you get on the eShop by tonight at midnight to be registered for the ambassador benefits.
If you don’t feel like forking out the additional money and don’t think the games are worth it then trust me, I understand, when I bought my 3DS it came out of my eating out budget so I ate cereal every day for a week in response. If, however, you do want to take part in the 20 free NES and GBA games that they are offering and haven’t had time to purchase the 3DS, today is your last opportunity. The first of September is when the free NES games should be available and it hasn’t yet been announced when the GBA games will be coming however we do know it will be this year.
Although those games are still a month or more away the cutoff for entering the program is tonight at midnight due to the Nintendo 3DS price drop occurring tomorrow on August 12th. We have included a list of the games that have been announced so far, so take a look and see if perhaps it may be worth it for you to grab the 3DS before it’s too late to take advantage of this opportunity.
NES Games : Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda.
GBA Games : Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame, Mario vs. Donkey Kong
There are also some unconfirmed rumors that Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror may be included on the GBA list but that is still up in the air and may or may not happen. As it reaches closer a final list will be released which we will update you on when the time comes, however until then those titles ease my conscious about having spent $249.99 on the 3DS months before it would drop $80, and a ton of free virtual console games definitely feels like a valid thank you to fans who purchased the 3DS soon after or on it’s release.
These games should eventually be on the eShop for everyone to be able to download for a price later after those in the ambassador program have already enjoyed them. If you are even considering buying the 3DS for the free games then the cutoff is literally only hours away so get cracking. If not then you still get to purchase the handheld Nintendo 3DS for only $169.99, and it really is a great console to own.
