Metal Gear Solid Rising : Hopefully This One Won’t Make My Brain Hurt

Oh Metal Gear Solid, if I had a nickel for every hour I spent playing you I would be a rich rich woman. I remember when the first game in the series came out, it was my first encounter with a stealth style game. As someone who takes a run-through-the-open-and-attack-everything approach to most shooters the idea of sneaking around and avoiding detection intrigued me. As the franchise continued I fell in love with the games, each one morphing into a better title then the last while still maintaining it’s stealth roots.

Don’t even get me started on Metal Gear Solid 4, I’m not ashamed to say it is the sole reason I purchased a PS3 and in the end it was so worth it. Although the plot through me for a loop and had me on Wikipedia for hours trying to figure out what the hell was going on, the games are a masterpiece and one of the collections I am proud to own.

December 2012 will bring us a new MGS title, Metal Gear Solid : Rising, and if the teaser trailers are any indication of what we have to look forward to then it should be a fun ride. Raiden having been one of my favorite characters in the series, I am excited to see what they will do with him as the main protagonist, and look forward to slicing, dicing and doing ninja style moves only Raiden could ever do.

I was concerned, as many were, that due to this main character shift, that perhaps they were going to move away from the stealth overtones but those fears were silenced when they announced that they are keeping with the same structure and a no-kill game is going to be possible for Rising.

That being said, Snake and Raiden are very different in combat styles so I can only imagine that they will also be contrasting in stealth tactics, making Rising a brand new MGS experience, and one that should add something fresh to the franchise. As far as the plot goes I’m crossing my fingers that it wont get so complicated that my brain explodes, however knowing how this series twists the smart money isn’t on a simple storyline.

If you are a fan of the series I’m sure you have already reserved your copy, if you haven’t I would advise you to, if it’s anything like the release of MGS 4 then it’s opening day will be chaotic and you might not get it if you wait until the last second. Metal Gear Solid : Rising will not come out until December 2012 for the Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, so no matter what console you own there is no excuse for not getting this gem of a game.

i also got a ps3 solely for mgs4… well worth it. im going to be honest, i absolutely love the convoluted storyline (which i was able to follow without any problems until the very last cutscene).
i will say however, that there is no way that i would reserve a copy of a game until i know a great deal about it… regardless of the fact that the mgs series is just about my favorite game series ever.
im particularly hesitant to even get my hopes up for rising because of the very fact that they are releasing it on the xbox 360 as well as the ps3. this shows, as they have also stated in interviews, that they are trying to appeal to a broader audience. what i loved so much about mgs4 (and even the rest of them) is that they made it for the hardcore, because only a hardcore fanbase could get into such a complicated game. not only with the story, but the game mechanics and features, i.e. the level of intricate control over the character.
im honestly afraid that with rising, they are going to put out a dumbed down mgs for the masses instead of an even deeper level of intricacy for the hardcore…

but who knows… it could turn out to be the best yet.

The Metal Gear Solid games have deep, intricate, rich plots but they aren’t difficult to follow if you pay attention. Also Rising is currently on track for 2012, not 2011.

No one said anything about the release date except that they are planning to release it in 2012, last confirmed by Kojima himself.
