Most of you are familiar with the shiny red machines that sometimes stand outside grocery stores or gas stations known as RedBox. They hold DVDs and Blu Rays and are known for their cheap dollar a day price and convenience. Well now those lovely rental dispensers are carrying video games for the Wii, PS3, and all the other consoles for the same low price.
As this has just started I wouldn’t expect any new releases to show their faces in there however the one near me has a decent selection, and $1.50 a day sure as heck beats any other game rental service I’ve heard of.
Be aware though, that you rent them by swiping your credit card so they have your money should you forget about the games and let them linger around. The price is dirt cheap but can add up if you don’t remember to take it back and nothing is worse then looking at your bank statement and suddenly realizing you’ve had the game for a month and now have basically paid the purchase price for it.
As annoying as it would be having that cost stack up, it rarely does due to the convenient locations the RedBox dispensers are placed, and a simple trip to the grocery store would remind you.
Let’s be honest for a minute, the nation is broke, and if you’re like me, you wince every time you write out your budget and try to include an additional $60 for a video game. Not exactly a cost I always feel comfortable with or am able to make, so any solution that allows me to rent titles for a low cost, especially as low as $1.50, is a dream come true.
If you’re not sure where the closest RedBox is to you, just look online to find all of the locations and give it a try, you may be surprised at the variety of games they have available.
